The Tempelhofer Feld is a green oasis in the middle of the city. Since 2010 the former airfield is open to all for leisure activities. Here you will meet joggers, cyclists and skaters daily on the disused runway together with sports clubs, which used the field for training. In addition there are dog-exercising areas. Of course you can also simply relax – lie on the grass, have a barbeque or unwind by working in the communal garden.
- How big?
The area of the Tempelhofer Feld is 300 hectares.
In a referendum inhabitants of Berlin voted as to how the former airfield should be used. Result: Not for building on, it should remain as it is!
Did you know…?
…Tempelhof airport was the site of the world famous airlift during the cold war. During the blockade of West Berlin by the Soviet Union, allied planes were able to land at Tempelhof with provisions for inhabitants cut off from the rest of western Germany.
